When Color Meets Water

Arlene Fassler

Arlene Fassler is a 94-year-old artist whose career spans decades of dedication to the visual arts. She began her professional journey while still in high school, working in the art department at Benson Printing Co. in Nashville, Tennessee. She went on to establish the art department for L.M. Berry & Co. for the state of Tennessee.

After marriage, Arlene relocated to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she continued her creative work as a freelance artist. She has studied extensively, participating in watercolor workshops across the United States and internationally—from Italy to Guatemala.

A passionate supporter of the arts, Arlene served as president of the Iowa Watercolor Society for four years and holds signatory membership in the organization. She has led numerous workshops in Cedar Rapids, both privately and through Kirkwood Community College.

Her work has been exhibited at the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce and featured in many regional art shows, including "Art on the Fence" in Stone City, "Snake Alley" in Burlington, and exhibitions at Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

While she has explored various artistic mediums throughout her life, Arlene's true passion lies in watercolor. Her paintings are part of many private and professional collections throughout the Cedar Rapids area.
