World music is a broad term for musical styles from around the globe, particularly those originating outside of Western cultures or blending non-Western and Western traditions. While incredibly diverse, encompassing everything from traditional folk and indigenous forms to modern pop from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, it often highlights the unique cultural context, instruments, and performance practices of its origins. Coined in the 1960s and popularized as a marketing category in the 1980s, the term has faced criticism for its wide scope, yet it remains a widely used way to categorize and explore the vast array of global musical expressions.

CSPS presents the World Music Series showcasing a global tapestry of cultures through music, language, dance, and various performance art forms, presented by solo artists, groups, and large ensembles. Audiences can experience these unique cultural explorations in a variety of settings, including the intimate CSPS black box theater, the spacious main concert hall, the vibrant outdoor courtyard, or at off-site locations where CSPS will serve as the presenting event organization.

A special thanks goes to the World Music Series committee who play a pivotal role in planning and development . Its primary purpose is to discover, choose, and promote events that will have the greatest impact on the city, which includes actively suggesting artists and performances for the series. Beyond selection, the committee is crucial in assisting with promotion, marketing, and public relations efforts. Furthermore, a key focus for the committee is to develop innovative ways to engage underserved communities and groups, ensuring the series is accessible and relevant to all.
