Born at Mercy Hospital and raised in Swisher, Iowa, Casey grew up alongside Gen-X siblings as a latchkey kid, spending summers outdoors. After graduating from Prairie High School, Casey attended Wartburg College, earning dual degrees in Studio Art and Graphic Design. Following graduation, a move to Italy led to the creation of landscapes and portraits before returning to Iowa.
For eight years, Casey worked with their father in the water-well industry, which allowed for painting and writing in spare time. In 2008, Casey relocated to the Netherlands to paint full-time. However, the stress of living as an illegal immigrant prompted a return to Iowa before eventually moving to St. Louis. There, Casey took on various odd jobs, including construction and architectural salvage, while navigating a struggling economy.
Over time, Casey found solace in community, volunteering and designing for high-end restaurants. By 2020, after a four-year hiatus from painting, the isolation brought on by COVID-19 sparked a reflection on why the creative process had paused. After two years of introspection, Casey realized that creating is a gift that must be nurtured. The collection, ‘All the Things,’ represents this renewed perspective, consisting of three series: the kids, COrVID, and Forever Ago, revealing the beauty within life’s imperfections.
Enjoy the simplified headiness the COrVID series brings to the COVID 19 pandemic. The Forever Ago set of pieces illustrate what twenty years of color theory-motivated, impasto painting looks like and beg to be touched. While the kids bring pause and a bit of a smile with their colorful playfulness. Standalone pieces are throughout to keep your eyes full.
