Life has its ups and downs, and Michelle Edwards has learned to manage them by admiring nature, God's creation with all its wonders, colors, and textures. Photographing it all started as a simple hobby to help her de-stress, relax, and recharge and now it has become a defining moment in her journey into the world of art. Michelle's work is more intuitive than learned. When creating a piece of artwork, she is not led by book knowledge or professional training. Inspiration may come from a piece of metal that broke off her favorite piece of yard décor, a color, a word, a plant, or butterfly flying over a garden. This collection is her first and she hopes it inspires you to look around your surroundings, starting with our cities, Cedar Rapids and Marion, Iowa, embracing the beauty that they provide by just walking out of your door.
This collection of artwork, The Oops Garden, came about because of an oops. A decision made by a lay person to step into the world of artistry and try to do something that they had never done before. The painted object was supposed to be a sunset, but when finished it looked more like blades of grass. Michelle decided to flip the canvas upside down and let it be grass, thus the beginning of what is now a collection of mixed media pieces and photographs of the beautiful scenery surrounding us. All the pieces are nature inspired. The mixed media pieces are made up of different kinds of materials. There are rocks, real dried foliage from parks and yards, glass beads, and other miscellaneous objects. The pictures of landscapes, flowers, skies, and bodies of water were usually taken during times of distressing or meditative contemplation. Michelle hopes that the mixture of these materials will bring you a sense of peace, thoughtfulness, and calm as it has for her.
