Molly Rose Meeter, born in the state of Iowa in 1978, a Presidential Scholar Award winner at The University of Northern Iowa, emphasizing in Painting and Printmaking. Receiving a Masters of Arts Degree, for Painting in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, at the Instituto de Allende. At the New York Studio School of Art she was awarded a scholarship to participate in their week long Drawing Marathon, drawing from sunrise to sunset every day. Molly Rose currently works in Des Moines, Iowa as a tattoo artist and illustrator, and paints murals across the Midwest. Her drawings are filled with dark, loose forms with an impression of there being a compulsion to create and express repressed emotions. Charcoal and ink dripping from paper and raw canvas, with hints of bright color giving the eye a place to rest amongst the chaotic lines that find form and envelope the space with a thought.
I make figurative work that responds in real time to what it feels like to exist right now—personally, politically, and collectively. My process is fast, intuitive, and emotionally driven. I am not interested in distancing myself from the moment; I work inside it. The figures I create hold tension, grief, defiance, and survival. They are not static—they are in process, in conflict, in-transformation.
The body is central in my work because it carries everything: memory, trauma, pain, identity, resistance. I use bold line work and direct imagery to strip away distance between the artwork and the viewer. I want the work to hit first, then stay. I want it to feel recognizable before it is fully understood.
My practice is rooted in the belief that art can function as both witness and disruption. I am responding to the emotional weight of the world around me—locally and beyond—and translating that into images that hold truth without softening it.
