On the Artist:
Eight years ago, a friend pointed out that I was too consumed by work and animal rescue and suggested I find a hobby. When I recalled my childhood passion for painting, my friend encouraged me to revisit it. With that, I constructed an easel from Plywood and began painting over my earlier works, embarking on what would become the Phoenix series. This marked a significant shift in my artistic direction, allowing me to develop a style that is truly my own over the past eight years.
My artistic background includes a comprehensive high school education in the arts, where I took every available art class. In 2007, I earned an Associate of Arts degree in Culinary Arts from Le Cordon Bleu in Twin Cities, Minnesota. My professional experience spans two decades in the hospitality industry, working in various restaurants and hotels.
Creating art serves as my outlet for stress and anxiety. My work emphasizes the expression of emotion through the interplay of contrasting colors, lines, shapes, and shadows. I draw inspiration from the renowned artists Jackson Pollock and Georgia O’Keeffe, whose influence can be seen in the emotional depth and visual dynamics of my pieces.
In my most recent projects, I have focused on creating small paintings that feature vivid, vibrant colors. These individual works are then combined into framed displays, utilizing exposed screws to give each piece an industrial aesthetic. The resulting patterns are marked by bold contrasts in color and line, showcasing my evolving artistic style.
At home, I cherish spending time with my cats, Lukey and Herman, and enjoy cooking for my family.
Thank you for appreciating my art!
Statement from the artist, David B Miller, on "Standing Alone":
Amid the difficulties of coming home because of cancer and loss of a relationship. I began to seek contentment and positivity. Artistic expression became a vital tool in this journey. Through painting, I discovered ways to process my emotions and rebuild a sense of hope. Art provided a space for healing and allowed me to find moments of peace and joy, even when standing alone. My work has been about finding a new
direction for my future through use of bold colors, contrasts and textures.
My art has been and is my therapy.
