About Yagody

Founded in the cultural hub of Lviv, Ukraine in 2016, YAGÓDY describes their musical genre as "ethno-drama," a style that treats every song as a theatrical performance in one act. Drawing heavily from their backgrounds in theater, the group constructs a "musical trance" where ancient Ukrainian melodies are reimagined through hypnotic vocal harmonies and primal, driving percussion. Their sound is characterized by a "wild" energy—incorporating elements of nature like the sound of rivers or birds—while blending traditional folk structures with contemporary arrangements. The result is a visceral experience that moves between raw, rebellious anthems and delicate, heartbreaking narratives.

Beyond their vocal power, the band's style is defined by a diverse instrumental palette that fuses Ukrainian heritage with broader Balka rhythms. They utilize a mix of traditional and modern instruments, including the accordion, drymba (Hutsul mouth harp), and Tibetan bowls, supported by a heavy rhythmic foundation of djembe, drums, and bass guitar. Their visual presentation is just as essential to their style as the audio; they perform in ornate, hand-embroidered vyshyvanka garments, using costumes and ritualistic staging to amplify the cultural history behind their music and bring traditional folklore into a modern, amplified context.
