After a traumatic brain injury and FND took her memories, voice, and the life she had spent decades building, Kaos Kris is beginning a new chapter—rebuilding her artistic practice through wood, resin, and dimensional work.
Art has always been the one constant in Kris’s life. She had been a tattoo artist for nearly twenty years when the car accident took everything, and she was forced to start over in ways she never expected. The injury brought aphasia, memory loss, chronic pain, and the ongoing challenge of navigating a world that suddenly moved faster than her body and brain could keep up with. For years she struggled to be heard and believed while she was unable to fully advocate for herself.
Significant recovery was not expected, but Kris was determined to keep creating. She began teaching herself entirely new tools and processes. She learned CNC machining, built her own equipment, and gradually developed a new artistic language through wood, resin, and laser-cut forms. What began as an act of survival slowly became the foundation for a new body of work, and most likely the key to getting better.
Her practice is rooted in persistence, transformation, and rediscovery. Through layered wood, resin, and sculptural forms, Kris creates work that shows the light she found in the dark places and the joy of the possibility of renewal. Each piece is part of an ongoing process of rebuilding—not only an artistic practice, but a life.
This work is what rebuilding a life looks like.
Finding Form Anew: A Voice in Emergence presents a body of work created during a period of profound rebuilding for artist Kaos Kris. Through CNC-carved wood, resin, and layered dimensional forms, the work explores resilience, rediscovery, and the emergence of a new artistic voice.
After a traumatic brain injury changed the course of her life, Kris began rebuilding her creative practice from the ground up—teaching herself new tools, developing new processes, and finding new ways for her work to take form.
Rather than presenting a finished destination, this exhibition captures a moment of emergence. It reflects an artist experimenting, learning, and rediscovering how her ideas can take shape in the world again.
