A chance encounter at an Iowa City art sale brought together a marbled paper artist and a collage artist. Sharon Beckman, the collage artist, was inspired by the marbled papers of Connie Sherman and began using them in her collages. On Paper: Marbled & Collaged, works by both artists, is the result.

After growing up in Nebraska and graduating with a BFA, Sharon Beckman pursued painting and drawing in Paris, spending two years making art for art’s sake. She then moved to New York City, where she enjoyed a career as graphic designer and art director for non-profits, including Carnegie Hall and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. She returned to the Midwest after meeting her husband, a photographer and airline pilot. Beckman owned and operated Archive, a vintage art store and studio in Stoughton, WI, which ensured an ample supply of source materials for future art projects, before moving to rural Iowa City.

jewelry, foil imaging, etc... .anything and everything was of interest. In 2018, she took a Paper Marbling workshop at Minnesota Center for Book Arts, and that was that. Works can be found in various galleries around the Midwest and local art fairs.
